The Human Centered Design PhD at DePaul University prepares students to work in academia, government organization, and industry research labs such as IBM, Google, Lucent Technologies, and Motorola. Through advanced coursework, students will learn to design and conduct research studies; design human-centered experiences through research findings; and create experiences in a specific area. The program also explores academic and the process of reviewing literature. UX Design — How Things Work

In short, UX and UI designers are the reason websites don’t look like they did in 2002. Virtually all big companies employ UI designers to create and maintain their web presence. Whether you’re a seasoned designer or just starting out, this step-by-step tutorial will give you valuable insights into the UI/UX design world. In this article, we’ll break down each stage of the design process, providing tips and best practices along the way.

Choosing between UX and UI

This means, graduates are prepared to pursue leadership roles across industries; seek entry-level teaching and research positions at universities; or enroll in a design-focused PhD program. Q: What information is necessary for an UI design agency to start working a UX project?

The truth is, in the grand scheme of things, UI/UX are still relatively new fields—and, as already mentioned, they tend to be specific to the tech industry. Outside the worlds of design and tech, they’re not so widely understood despite being incredibly important for business. They’ll ask questions like “How can different color combinations be used to create contrast and enhance readability? While the UX designer maps out the journey, the UI designer focuses on all the details that make this journey possible. That’s not to say that UI design is all about looks; UI designers have a huge impact on whether or not a product is accessible and inclusive.

San Jose State University is accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). The College of Humanities and the Arts and the College of Engineering at San Jose State University (San Jose State or SJSU) provide two graduate programs for students seeking careers in UX/UI/HCI. Options include the Master of Design (MDes) with a specialization in Experience Design (XD), and the Human Factors and Ergonomics MS (HFE MS). For the two-semester Capstone, students work in groups to conduct user research and prototype designs for real clients. This option allows students to gain valuable experience in project management, UX design, user research, and front-end development.

These are the UI UX design firms that have a high probability of becoming user experience companies. Credibility is all about the ui design company’s online profile and reputation. Because it cannot always be controlled, a simple Google search will reveal the extent to which a UX design organization has created an online presence. Additionally, it is a good idea to conduct background checks on personnel, contact corporate representatives, and ask questions. The role of these agencies is essential for businesses aiming to improve their online interaction and provide a smooth user experience. Aspiring UI/UX designers can learn this field for free using resources available online.

It is important to be aware that UX designers are not typically responsible for the visual design of a product. Rather, they focus on the user’s journey and how the product is structured to facilitate this journey. UX doesn’t only apply to websites, though–any product or service you come into contact with evokes a certain type of experience. While UX and UI developers primarily focus on website design, they’re also responsible for putting it all together. These tech professionals take ideas from the drawing board to reality, and every step in between. Color, features, content, and layout all make a massive difference in your takeaway.

PNYKA does a great job of explaining the intended use of the application, which is always a priority when marketing a niche product. Most people do not have previous experience with a similar application, requiring PNYKA to quickly explain the purpose of the product. ChimpQuote has one of the more effective UX design examples, enticing visitors with a free preview of their services before requesting additional information. When UX designers understand the value of researching their target demographic, they can implement features that appeal to potential customers.

Students in this program have access to many of the same courses as students in the MS program do. A company that focuses on crafting user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) designs for various digital products, such as websites and apps, is commonly known as a UI UX design company. Their primary goal is to ensure that the digital products they design are user-friendly and engaging for the intended audience. Once you have attained proper certification, you are finally ready to start your career in a digital design agency, and you have the right skills for it, it’s time to look for a job.

This includes 26 credits of HCDE electives and elective courses in specialized content areas, and 24 credits of required courses such as Usability Studies; User-Centered Design; and Experimental Methods. Every UX design consulting should have a portfolio of completed projects. It demonstrates experience, the industries in which a company has worked, and the level of quality you can expect if you choose to engage with this certain interaction design agency. Communication, critical thinking, and an interest in human psychology are all transferable skills that can help you succeed in a satisfying user experience career. Of course, any designer will require training in the job-specific design skills required, but those talents are easily reachable. User experience design is an excellent subject for job changers due to its acceptance of transferrable talents and a diverse range of life experiences.

Businesses employ UX designers from many educational and experience backgrounds, including sales and psychology. UX designers are human-oriented and focus on the needs and wants of website users. UX designers combine market research, product development, strategy, and design to create seamless user experiences for products, services, and processes. Applying for a UX writer role is an excellent option for those with a knack for creative writing. A UX writer must create written content for digital products to enhance the user experience.

When it comes to some of the coolest EDC items on the market, Prometheus Design Werx tops the list. Along with the typical EDC fare, the company also releases knives that have all the familiar hallmarks of quality as its other products. Alongside its compact yet utilitarian nature, another major part of what makes the OS3 so special is its sheath. Rather than opting for a custom-fitted KYDEX item, PDW has paired the OS3 with a stacked leather sheath. Made entirely by hand, the sheath sports a cleverly-designed backside that allows it to be securely mounted to a backpack’s shoulder strap — including PDW’s HAL1 Velcro straps — where it can be kept at the ready for rapid deployment.

Made by hand in Idaho, the SPD Edition of the Sebenza 31 is being offered in two sizes. Tipping the scales at 4.7oz, the Large-spec packs a 3.61” blade and measures 8.40” when open, while the Small variant weighs in at 3oz, boasts a 2.99” blade, and spans 6.98” overall with its blade deployed. Like the regular Sebenza models, the SPD Edition retains the standard folder’s Reeve Integral Lock and ceramic ball (detent) interface, titanium pocket clip, and blue-anodized lanyard pin and single-sided thumb-stud. The top-shelf titanium handle is mated to a flat and hollow-ground drop point blade with a stone-wash finish that’s crafted from CPM S45VN — an ultra-premium blade steel born out of a collaboration between Crucible Industries and Chris Reeve.

Sporting a design that was inspired by 1980s fixed blade models, the OS3 is a compact pack and field knife that measures 8” overall. Boasting a thickness of 0.145”, the OS3’s blade is comprised of a flat-ground spear point item with an unsharpened upper swedge and a top-shelf CPM S35VN construction with a matte ceramic bead-peened finish. The OS3 also tips the scales at a svelte 3.7oz, making it ideal for everything from backpacking to survival use. Short for “California Special,” this truncated auto knife is a product of PDW’s Special Projects Division.

I then wanted to check the edge and see how it held up, so I cut up some corrugated cardboard. The edge was still sharp enough to slice up most of a large box without any issue. There were some points that it kind of tore, but I think it was more due to the box being hard to hold onto. Next, I whittled a quick try stick, performing different various reductions and notches. The clip point tip was perfect for prying out chunks of wood for finer detail work.

We learn from the past, look to the future, and build for today. With decades of experience in creating highly versatile, capable designs used worldwide in adventurous to dangerous places, Prometheus Design Werx is wilderness grade goods for the outsider. In June of 2019, 31 years after the debut of the original Sebenza, Chris Reeve Knives released the Sebenza 31 — an ultra-top-shelf folding knife that’s now widely viewed as the holy grail of premium everyday carry blades. Created by PDW’s Special Projects Division (or SPD), the Audax packs an American clip point blade that’s composed of ultra-top-shelf Böhler M390 — unequivocally one of the finest blade steels that money can buy. The blade is deployed using a knurled and ramped, double-action titanium thumb slider that’s been fitted with a dive watch-grade GITD inlay. The SPD Audax OTF Knife also boasts PDW’s signature handle and blade fullers. Taking its name from the Latin word for “bold,” the Audax is constructed around a grooved 6061-T6 aluminum handle that’s been fortified via a type III hard-anodized coating.

Since its inception in 2014, Prometheus Design Werx has consistently placed a premium on quality over quantity, delivering highly-calculated garments and gear that have been engineered to last a lifetime. And while the San Francisco-based outfit has previously produced a wide range of fixed blade and folding knives, PDW has now unveiled its first-ever out-the-front knife with the all-new SPD Audax. Featuring design inspiration from the Loveless Chute Knife, the SPD STS-B addresses the needs first brought forth by Harry Archer. Archer is the man who initially commissioned the chute knife concept to Loveless. He was looking for an all-around edged tool that could cut parachute lines, aid in wilderness survival, be used for personal safety/defense, etc. This homage to the legendary pattern puts Archer’s vision into a modern, highly detailed purpose driven framelock folder.

I can buy into a trend and find it’s not worth the hype, or I can splurge on a pair of jeans only to hate the way they fit my curves, but shoes never disappoint. So, it’s only logical that investing in a pair of designer shoes is never a bad call. Of course, there are endless options of trendy heels and cool sneakers, so where does one even start? Ahead, I’m spilling what seven designer shoes are on my radar, based on which ones have reached cult status on Instagram and which shoe trends I’m betting will be big in the coming months.

It was only as I grew into my career as a fashion journalist, and unearthed my inner shoe gal that I discovered the power of statement stilettos. Is it even possible to round up dreamy designer shoes without including Amina Muaddi? Her heels have become beloved by the fashion set for their usage of colors, crystals, and other quirky elements. I can’t think of a better strappy sandal to invest in for spring as they lend themselves to being a sandal you can pull out for seasons to come. As a digital fashion editor, I log many hours a week hunting down the best of the best in online shopping and personally make most of my fashion purchases on the internet. That being said, there are some pieces I still love to try on in person before making the investment, including shoes.

This is another useful tip that helps you work like a pro, and gives you a clean surface to operate on. You can also get some newspaper or an old cloth the fill the inside while working, so that no glitter will reach the inner part of the shoe. Next, pour some mod podge in a clean plastic bowl, and stir the glitter inside it. If interested to design a fancy dress shoe, you can consider attaching brooches and pendants in the front part.

The super-soft upper and lightweight construction make these a no-brainer to pick up, while eight different colorways make these easy to pair with your style. Last but not least, the one pair of shoes I find myself obsessing over the most is Loewe’s Broken Egg Sandals. I should note that talking about these shoes is like walking on eggshells because I’m waiting for them to be restocked, and my partner continually tells me I don’t need them.

Shoes, when done right, can elevate and bring any outfit to life. The season’s revered off-white dress can take on a multitude of personalities when paired with MiuMui’s ballerina flat, Chloe’s Nama Trainers or Bottega Veneta’s strappy heel. The same idea applies to handbags. The addition of a raffia tote can transport a light-hued short suit to any coastal destination.

Molly Brown House U S. National Park Service

She survived the sinking of the RMS Titanic on April 15, 1912 and was known afterwards as the “Unsinkable” Molly Brown. Her house, called “the House of Lions” but historically known as the Molly Brown House, welcomed visiting royalty and international figures. A musical and movie were made about her life, and she was portrayed by actress Kathy Bates in James Cameron’s 1997 film Titanic. Her rags to riches story, and her unsuccessful attempts to break into Denver society, as well as her taking charge of one of the lifeboats of the Titanic, have made her a memorable figure as one of Colorado’s most colorful women.

History

Construction on the house is thought to have started in 1887 by George W. Clayton or Isaac N. Large, but was not completed due to financial problems. The Browns purchased the house in 1890 and completed construction around 1892. It was Molly herself who selected the lavish, even ostentatious, furnishings and decorations. She was hoping to work her way into Denver society, but her attempts backfired, and the so-called “Sacred Thirty-Six” of Denver completely bypassed her. Snubbed, Molly began a series of journeys to the cultural capitals of the world, primarily Paris, London and New York, to study art, music, design, fashion, languages and other areas of interest.

Explore the National Park Service

Some of these early trips she made with her husband, but gradually he stayed home more to mind his financial empire, and she went off by herself. They had two children, Franklin and Kathy Brown.Due to these trips, Molly became well-known in international society. Molly Brown was cited for her hospital work as well as for entertaining the troops during World War I, and she erected the Mark Twain Memorial in her hometown of Hannibal, Missouri.

Her efforts also lead to the preservation of Denver poet Eugene Field’s home. Her interest in politics put her on the forefront of the women’s movement. Her true fame, however, was linked with the greatest shipping disaster known up to that point in history---the sinking of the RMS Titanic.

After the repeal of the Sherman Silver Purchase Act in 1893, the Large family sold the house. It was purchased by James Joseph Brown (J.J.), Margaret's husband, in 1894 for US$30,000 and the title was transferred to Margaret in 1898, possibly due to J.J.'s deteriorating health. The Molly Brown House Museum (also known as House of Lions) is a house in Denver, Colorado, United States that was the home of American philanthropist, activist, and socialite Margaret Brown. She survived the sinking of the RMS Titanic and was known as the “Heroine of the Titanic” for her service to survivors. The museum is her former home and presents exhibits interpreting her life, Victorian Denver and historic preservation. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

Margaret and the family traveled frequently, and so the house was often rented out. In 1902, it was the governor's mansion for the Governor of Colorado and his family (Margaret invited the governor and his family to use her home while the governor's mansion was undergoing remodeling). In 1926, Margaret turned the home into a boarding house under the supervision of her housekeeper.[3] The house was sold after Margaret's death in 1932, for $6,000.

The home then became a rooming house for men, a Jane Addams Hull House settlement, and rooms and apartments for rent.

The Molly Brown House Museum is the premier place to explore Denver's history. Explore on your own, or interact with knowledgeable docents who share the Progressive Era changes Margaret and mining engineer husband J.J. From the front porch of the home, see the State Capitol's gold dome and the spires of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception to connect the economic activities of mining to Denver's built environment and civic gathering places. Once inside, make connections between how families lived 100 years ago compared to today. Discover the rich history of immigration to Denver by hearing about the Tobin and Brown families as well as their servants. The house was designed by architect William A. Lang,[2] and built in 1889, incorporating several popular styles of the period, including Queen Anne style architecture in the United States and Richardsonian Romanesque for the original owners Isaac and Mary Large.

While the in-person outlets don’t have a website, you can find some seriously fantastic deals online in their clearance section. You can find the direct link in my online outlet roundup post. I snagged a $500 pivot mirror for $28 and some $150 bathroom towel bars for just $6 by browsing their online deals.

how much is a cruise ship ticket

There are plenty of factors that come into play when searching for the perfect cruise. But as you can see, on a per-person basis the cost for a 7-day cruise can run around $2,000 when you factor in everything you’ll spend. Note that this amount doesn’t include gratuities charged for extras like alcoholic beverages on the ship.

If you’re interested in a themed vacation or want to explore a new destination, there are specialty cruises available for just about every interest. Travel agents often have access to exclusive discounts and group cruise rates. If you’re willing to take a last-minute cruise, you can often get a great deal. Being flexible with your travel plans can save you a lot of money. These cabins have a window that offers passengers a view of the ocean.

Credit cards

While gratuities can vary, they usually run about $13 per person, per day. So a couple traveling together can expect to pay $26 per day, total. The thing that jumps out at me is that the total cost is almost twice the cruise fare. I ran the numbers on several other cruises by shopping online and found that to be true in most cases.

You can choose to join a group tour, book a private guide, or go your own way and explore on your own. Some ports make the DIY option a lot easier than others where you might be lucky enough to step off the ship right into the middle of a bustling city or glistening shoreline. The price of a cruise includes transportation, accommodations, and most meals in the cruise fare. It also often includes activities and entertainment, as well as access to the ship’s facilities.

As always, it depends on what you want to spend your time doing, and how much structure you want doing it. On average, walking tours cost around $50 per person, while luxury or adventure tours cost an average of $400 per person. When it comes to coffee, regular brewed or drip coffees are more likely to be included.

These can be a great way to lower the overall cruise cost. Some cruise lines offer package deals that include airfare, hotel stays, and other extras. This can be a great way to cruise on a budget during your trip and have everything taken care of in one go.

You can also utilize credit card points and airline miles for some of your costs. As you can see, quite a few cruise lines fall under each cruise brand. We took the data from each of these 3 cruise operators (and all 183 cruise ships) and detailed how much the average passenger spent in both cruise fare and onboard spending.

Royal Caribbean leads the cruise industry with the most expensive ships. The spreadsheet below shows hundreds of ships ranked by total cost to build. Also included are cost today, cost per ton, and cost by cabin. Above, you'll find a graph showing the average cruise ship cost by cruise line.

Drinks packages start from around $12 for a soft drinks package up to $130 for a premium drinks package. From ziplining over Belize’s lush rainforest to snorkeling with sea turtles and rays in Bonaire, shore excursions take your cruise holiday to the next level. Sure, there’s plenty to do onboard on port days but if you’re keen to explore a new destination, shore excursions are the way to go. Economy seats will get you where you want to go just like the others, but forking out for a Business Class or First Class fare means you get there in style and comfort.

Another way to monitor price drops is to join a Cruise Critic Roll Call after you've booked your cruise. Members will often share when prices fall; if you learn of a price drop, contact your travel agent right away to get the new lower rate. If the final payment due date has already passed when you see a price drop, still contact the cruise line; you might get an upgrade or onboard credit. This is called a single supplement, and it's usually 100 percent of the second person's fare.

Some quick math shows that P&O UK paid roughly $364k per cabin for this ship. It's also interesting to look at the Costa Firenze cost per cabin. Some quick math shows that Costa paid roughly $449k per cabin for this ship. It's also interesting to look at the Mardi Gras cost per cabin. Some quick math shows that Carnival paid roughly $360k per cabin for this ship.

We also looked at how much does a cruise ship cost to build today vs. in the past? The chart below shows the average price tag of ships throughout the decades. Inflation PressuresThe biggest economic story of 2022 was inflation, and it didn’t stop at the water’s edge. It’s a worldwide issue that also impact cruise lines. Prices for many things, including services like wi-fi on cruise ships and gratuity charges have increased.

Richmond Canal Walk: A Mural-Filled Urban Hike

canal cruise richmond va

It’s an easy hike and it’s very enjoyable, especially the murals at the one-time hydroelectric plant. At the 2.3-mile mark, you can cross the canal and walk the path along 7th Street and Tredegar Street to the parking area, but it’s not especially scenic. From here, re-trace your steps, but at the 1.3-mile mark, do not cross the pedestrian bridge.

The James River Company set to work constructing the first towpath canal system in North America. The first section of the canal system to be completed circumvented the seven-mile falls near Richmond. There is so much to learn about Richmond’s history along the Canal Walk. This is an entirely new way to experience downtown Richmond and the Riverfront and its exhilarating to look at the familiar with a new lens, be that historical or just literally being on the historical canal. All things change when you look at them from different points of view. My favorite thing is how different the city looks and sounds from the water.

Brown’s Island

From many spots on Brown's Island, the remains of the Richmond and Petersburg railroad bridge are visible. This was the railroad that brought Jefferson Davis to the city to be inaugurated as the President of the Confederacy in 1861. When the city fell to the Union army four years later, all of the James River bridges, including the R&P, were burned.

At the 1.2-mile mark, you’ll cross under 14th Street, through a mural-filled underpass. Alternatively, a one-way ride of up to 45 minutes costs $1.75. At the 0.1-mile mark, you’ll reach an opening on the right where you can peek across to see Black Bird Island, which was key to the Haxall Mill Dam.

The American Civil War Museum is on your left at the 0.2-mile mark. On the right, cross over the Haxall Canal on a pedestrian bridge to Brown’s Island. A brown placard educates on what’s above, behind and in front of you, including Belle Isle, which is just to the right as you look out across the water. This is also the start for the Belle Isle Trail, so this lot can fill very quickly, especially on weekends. Born in a slave cabin, John Jasper became one of the most famous preachers of his time. Freed by emancipation in 1865 at the age of 53, he founded the Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church in one of the buildings that had housed the Confederate Laboratory on Brown's Island.

You’ll reach the end of the Canal Walk at the 1.4-mile mark, but only after crossing over the Kanawha Canal three times via footbridges and tunnels. Tours depart on the hour from the canal’s Turning Basin at 139 Virginia Street, in Downtown Richmond. Boats can accommodate up to 25 passengers and are accessible to those with physical disabilities. Tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis at the Turning Basin’s ticket kiosk, and online up to 18 hours in advance. These improvements ushered in the heyday of the James River and Kanawha Canal in Richmond. During the 1850s — and peaking in 1860 — canal traffic was at its busiest.

We do, however, set up the tables and chairs/benches on the boats in advance of your charter. Gary L. Flowers provides walking tours of Historic Jackson Ward featuring 20 stops in the downtown neighborhood of his hometown of Richmond, Virginia. Tours include historic, educational, economic, religious and social institutions that inspired the name "Black Wall Street" and "The Harlem of the South." The Downtown Sampler, Shockoe Bottom and Capitol Square tours are acclaimed by locals and visitors who discover fun stories and ways to experience the city like they never have before; exploring and seeing Richmond through new eyes. In a few more steps, you’ll reach the flood wall and the end of the 52-mile Virginia Capital Trail, a paved multi-use trail that starts in Williamsburg.

Cross the footbridge back over the canal at the 1.9-mile mark and re-trace your steps. This allows you a second opportunity to ogle the colorful murals. Built at the crossroads of Native trade routes, Richmond has always been a place where people, languages and goods have mingled. As the Confederates evacuated Richmond in 1865, they deliberately torched bridges, warehouses and arsenals to keep them from the Union army.

Travelers can see the unique Triple Crossing railroad, tobacco warehouses that have been converted into trendy lofts, the Virginia Capital Trail, the Low Line gardens and James River wildlife. The boat tours travel along Richmond’s historic Canal Walk and showcase centuries of history, from Powhatan’s Chiefdom to the world’s first commercially successful electric streetcar, all while cruising in authentic style boats. Visitors can explore Richmond’s unique attractions, including Triple Crossing railroad, trendy tobacco warehouses-turned-lofts, the Virginia Capital Trail, Low Line gardens, and James River wildlife. The Downtown Bus Terminal, close to the Government Center, has routes to South Beach, Key Biscayne (good for the Seaquarium) and as far as the Aventura Mall. Miami is a city of multiple charms with lots of attractions to enjoy during a longer stay. Unfortunately, most touristic promotions have been focusing on a few main sites and leave out many other interesting aspects of the city that are worth exploring. Besides the Beach (on South Beach), the Seaquarium, the typical Everglades experience or Little Havana there is much more to enjoy on a overnight stay in Miami. If you have a look at the map above, it is clear that the Port of Miami (on Dodge Island) is connected by a bridge to Downtown on the West mainland.

Private Car and Limo Services

Rideshare pick-ups are located on the arrivals level of the airport. If you've rented a car instead, please see directions by car "Getting There by Car" above. Taxis from Miami International Airport are readily available on days when ships are embarking or disembarking passengers.

Getting to Terminal C

Keep going south and turn left into Northeast 5th Street, where you will eventually get to the bridge into the Port of Miami. Miami is considered the Cruise Capital of the world, with over 7 million cruise passengers visiting it’s port each year. There are numerous place to shop, along with restaurants and things to do near the Port of Miami. Cruises originating from Miami embark from the Port of Miami which is located at 1015 N. A good alternative to Cruise Lines Transfers, Taxi, Uber or Lift is the service provided by independent shuttle companies that can easily be booked online. There are quite a few and IQCruising does NOT in any way endorse, sponsor or gets paid to advertise any of them.

Seasonal ship relocations (RepositionCruises.com) include Panama Canal transits from Florida to Alaska in late Spring. The itineraries end either in California ports or in the turnaround ports for Alaskan roundtrip from Vancouver BC or Seattle WA. On May 4, 2018, from Barcelona to PortMiami were delivered 2x large-sized "Seaport Passenger Boarding Bridges".

Staying in Miami overnight

The great news about being in a tourist hotspot like Miami is that there’s an entire industry catering to tourists and cruise passengers to help you with anything you need. That means you have an number of transportation options to get to the port. If you’re not picky, however, you can save some cash by staying at hotels nearer the airport or elsewhere around the city.

From Miami Airport (MIA) to the Port of Miami

Ignored by most, there is a Trolley (FREE) with a stop next to Terminal J and another stop close enough to Terminal F - find below the terminals where cruise ships dock. However if your cruise ships docks at any of the other terminals the walk can be quite long - over 3/4 mile (1 km) to Terminal B. PortMiami cruise terminals are among the best and most modern in the world. They have to be, as they need to accommodate over 6.8 million cruise passengers and their luggage in a speedy, secure and efficient manner!

In total there are thousands of parking spaces — you don’t need to reserve a space or worry about finding a spot. Uber/LyftIf you fly in for your cruise — or simply don’t want to deal with driving — then Uber and Lyft offer service throughout South Florida to the Miami cruise port (including the airports). Getting a ride at any time you want is as simple as opening the app and requesting a ride at your location.

PortMiami serves 20+ cruise companies and 60+ different passenger ships. Click here to read our full article on Miami hotels with cruise shuttles. If you’re driving to the port, then you obviously need a place to park your car. As in other port cities, there’s an industry surrounding cruise parking for passengers. We cover all of your options in full detail (with prices and locations) in our Port of Miami cruise parking article. Another form of independent travel between airport and cruise terminal are taxis, which don’t require pre-booking.

The cruise terminal is located on Dodge Island, just across from downtown Miami. It is about 8 miles east of Miami International Airport and 25 miles south of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Of course, if you opt for a pre-cruise stay in a hotel, some hotels also offer cruise and stay packages which can include parking. Shared Ride Services are probably the most popular form of transportation in recent years. Popular apps like Uber and Lyft are allowed to pick-up/drop-off passengers at both the airport and the cruise port.

Terminal K is a newly approved terminal to serve as homeport for at least one of Disney Cruise Line’s latest ships which will all be powered by eco-friendly LNG. An MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) was approved by Miami-Dade commissioners in Fall 2018. It will become a fully automated “One-stop shop” for Customs and Border Protection (CBP) services. This facility is designed to look like a boutique to cater to discerning high-end cruisers who are looking for more personal service. Currently, under construction, Terminal AA/AAA is due for completion 2022 at a cost of $300 million.

The vessel has six onboard zones where families can have fun together, including the Ultimate Playground, where BOLT and the SportsSquare are located. Of course, there’s no Mardi Gras without New Orleans, so the French Quarter zone is where you’ll find Big Easy-inspired amenities like an Emeril Lagasse restaurant. Originally debuted in 2021 as part of the Costa Cruises fleet (an Italy-based subsidiary of Carnival), the Firenze will set sail as a Carnival ship — with an Italian twist — in Spring 2024.

SO THAT’S ALL THE FUN ON CARNIVAL CELEBRATION®?

So perhaps it makes sense that it has one of the most extensive children's programs at sea. The line has formal children's programming and activities for children as young as 2 years old through the age of 17. Carnival is also well known for the Punchliner Comedy Clubs on its ships, which draw quality comedians and can get a little raucous late at night with adult-only performances. In general, the production shows aren't nearly as sophisticated — or as long — as what you'll find on Royal Caribbean or Norwegian ships. Note that the Carnival fleet is scheduled to grow over the next year with two more new vessels. As noted above, the line has ordered another sister vessel to Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration that will be ready to sail in late 2023.

By combining our extensive price data with upgrade details, onboard credits, itineraries, and more, you're able to quickly and clearly see just how much money you're going to save on your next cruise. Maybe you'll find your second cruise line of choice -- deals on luxury lines like Azamara and Regent Seven Seas are just a few of the bargains you might find. On "elegant" nights, you'll see a range of clothing from ball gowns, dresses that leave little to the imagination, tuxes and suits to the same shorts and tees people sport all day long. Most men, however, opt for long pants and collared shirts, while women don sundresses, or a skirt or pants with a blouse.

Kids will also love that there’s an onboard waterpark, kids club, and a Build-a-Bear Workshop at Sea. However, I often consider more than the total cost before booking a cruise. I look at the ports of call, the space-to-guest ratio, the amenities and onboard activities, and the launch point. When you’re cruising on Carnival Celebration there’s just so much destination to be found… even right on board. That’s because here, in The Gateway zone, “international flavor” isn’t just an expression, but a way of life! Design, décor, cuisine and even the entertainment is inspired by grand locations, landmarks from around the world.

Note that it is important that the name on your reservation be exactly as it is stated on your passport or other official proof of nationality. All this said, we recommend checking Carnival's website before sailing for the very latest on requirements. Carnival also offers dedicated tween and teen programs on ships for children aged 12 to 17.

Dubbed WaterWorks, these areas vary in size and features from vessel to vessel. They typically have one or two big waterslides (sometimes three!), a play zone with interactive water features and a large, continuously filling dump bucket that periodically soaks everybody within range. The top decks of Carnival vessels are covered in family-focused attractions – pools, waterslide areas and bustling fun zones with such draws as ropes courses and miniature golf. On one of Carnival's newest ships, Carnival Panorama, there's no RedFrog Pub, but the Smokehouse Brewhouse has a stage that's home to live music nightly and some of the ship's karaoke sessions. Also, there are always several music venues where you'll find live performers in the afternoons and evenings, including — on some ships — the Atrium Bar and a secondary hub area called Ocean Plaza.

Or Color My World, a show where they break into actual live-graffiti painting, right on stage. Here’s the most affordable way to experience Carnival Jubilee™, without cutting even a single corner in the comfort department. We call Carnival Jubilee™'s onboard burger spot Guy’s Burger Joint™. They’re not concerts, they’re not exactly plays… these shows are something else entirely. Every performance is built on amazing songs you know and love, presented like you’ve never seen before. Carnival Jubilee™ plays host to a lineup of shows like Soulbound and its spooky, atmospheric R&B and Visual Symphony, with innovative LED walls and special effects three decks high.

Carnival Liberty®

Most vessels have standard North American-style, 110-volt outlets in rooms, as well as European-style, 220-volt outlets. Carnival also offers a less expensive "social" plan that only allows access to key social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) and messaging services such as WhatsApp for $15.30 a day when bought in advance. A slightly more expensive "value" plan, at $19.55 per day when bought in advance, adds access to email and most websites. For cruises from international ports, you'll need a passport.

(Enough USB charging ports for everybody’s stuff? Oh yes!) Thoughtful, guest-centric design is how we do it… and all this in-room convenience comes paired with a fresh new look. It’s a meal, a performance, and it’s definitely unforgettable. The Bonsai Teppanyaki™ experience is set to delight guests aboard Carnival Celebration®.

While the free programming ends at 10 p.m., you can pay extra to leave your kids at Camp Ocean until 1 a.m. During those hours, Camp Ocean transforms into a supervised slumber party-type environment with games, movies, crafts and snacks, along with late-night parties called Night Owls. Carnival claims to draw more children than any other cruise line.

Cabins on recently unveiled or overhauled vessels have a soothing palette of creams and blues. Cabinetry in these rooms is a crisp and clean faux wood, and cabin bathrooms are neutral. That said, Carnival has seen the success that some of its competitors have had with a bigger range of upscale accommodations, and it's eyeing more suites for future vessels. The new Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration each have 180 suites — more than twice the number of Carnival's other recent ships.

Start by exploring the incredible ports we visit… and the fun things to do, both on the ship and ashore. Carnival ships are all about fun, in a lively, let's-not-take-this-too-seriously sort of way. That said, given the complexity of booking a cruise — there are a lot of decisions to make during the booking process; trust us — we recommend you use a seasoned travel agent who specializes in cruises. One or two nights a cruise, there will be a more formal "cruise elegant" night where men are expected to turn out in dress slacks and a dress shirt, preferably with a sports coat, or even in a suit. The suggested attire for women on such nights is cocktail dresses, pantsuits, elegant skirts and blouses. All vessels operate on a "cashless system," with any onboard purchases you make posting automatically to your onboard account.
